A high energy show that chronicles how Black music evolved through the Freedom Movement and civil rights era in the 20th century and celebrates the songwriters and the significant contributions of Black artists. Songs by Sam Cooke, Mahalia Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley and many more. Narrated through song and text, the works of musicians, poets and activists such as Martin Luther King Jr., Stevie Wonder, James Baldwin, Harry Belafonte, Langston Hughes, Duke Ellington, Maya Angelou are woven into the program. Performers with London Symphonia: Beau Dixon, creator, music director, arranger, pianist, singer; Alana Bridgewater, singer; Camille Eanga-Selenge, singer; Robert Ball, singer; Rohan Staton, guitars; Roger Williams, bass; Joe Bowden, drums.
