Narrated by CBC’s Tom Allen and curated by Concertmaster Joe Lanza, this concert features music forbidden to be played during the Third Reich and tells the fascinating stories behind these works. A highlight is the Canadian premiere of Walter Kaufmann’s String Quarter No 5, written in 1935 and rediscovered in London, Ontario in 2019. Excerpts of works by Erwin Schulhoff and Erich Korngold round out the program. Performed by the London Symphonia String Quartet: Hua-Chu Huang, violin; Émilie Paré, violin; Kelvin Enns, viola; and Ben Bolt-Martin, cello. Narrator: Tom Allen.
