Love in the Age of Melancholy
•
1h 36m
Mezzo-soprano Julie Boulianne’s interpretation of Hector Berlioz’s tragic work, Les nuits d’été, is spellbinding. The song cycle takes us through six poems about love and loss. These miniature explorations are a beautiful contrast to Schubert’s Symphony No. 9 “The Great”, a delicate, joyful work filled with musical complexity and written upon a grand symphonic canvas. Tania Miller conducts.
Recorded live at Metropolitan United, London, Ontario, April 15, 2023.
