A Bohemian Life
A celebration of creativity, passion and artistry with music by Debussy, Dvořák and a World Premiere.
The concept of what it means to live a Bohemian life is woven into every facet of the program — to sweep you away, and make you listen anew. Soprano Midori Marsh performs the World Premiere of Lasker-Schüler Songs. Written by Scott Good, London Symphonia’s Composer-in-Residence, the colorful, dynamic song cycle is based on five poems by the radical poet and Bohemian artist Else Lasker-Schüler that create a window into her fascinating life and struggles. Marsh’s range, colour of her voice and unique counter-culture virtuosity bring these poems to life. Bohemian composer Antonín Dvořák’s “Silent Woods”, Debussy’s symphonic poem, Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune, and Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8 which includes Bohemian folk music round out this intriguing program. Tania Miller conducts.
Recorded live at Metropolitan United, London, Ontario, April 6, 2024.
